How does marine life survive in Antarctica?
Hello..
Hope you all are doing well.
Everyone knows that polar bears in Antarctica depends on fishes to survive. But then how does fish survive the chilled water.
So, Water has a property called anomalous expansion. Like every liquid water contracts when cooled, but it only contracts till 4° C, after that it starts to expand at prodigious rate until it reaches 0° C.
Due to this expansion the water, the bottom is filled with dense water with constant temperature of 4°C while the upper surface converts to ice.
Once, upper surface converts to ice the oxygen is trapped inside, which helps fishes to survive.
Also, we have algae which provides more than half of world's oxygen.
Thanks for your time.
